THE Decision

We chose the last chateau we visited, whose viewing was crammed in right before we flew back to Paris. For the moment we’re calling it Maison de Roanne, not knowing if it’s dubbed something else by the local townspeople. The “good bones”, proximity to Lyon (food capital of France), location near the banks of the Loire & it’s sophisticated & charming curb appeal really won over our hearts fast! Despite its in town location, it does have enough land for a potager jardin (which is the French way to say kitchen garden). To further add to its uniqueness, & it boasts an orangerie (where we can make a teaching kitchen) & 4 apartments to help generate an income from day 1. We see so many possibilities & are SUPER excited to get through the financing process & onto the live-in-it part. We’re scheduled to close at the end of February 2022 (update: didn’t happen until July!), so that could come sooner than we expect!! We hope to start being able to have guests sometime towards the end of 2022 (update: 2025 - renovating takes MUCH longer than expected here!). Please take a look at the “Experiences” tab to find out more about how we plan to use this beautiful property to welcome guests for vacation adventures. Drop us an email if you’d like to be notified of upcoming events or any ideas you might have to visit!
