Really Good Bones

What does one mean with the phrase “good bones”. Here’s my take: structurally sound, good floors, nice flow, beautiful staircase & updated plumbing & electricity, solid roof. There are other things you can change…outdated bathrooms, bad paint job, unusual furniture or lighting. So this place, called a maison, has “good bones”. It needs to have some bathrooms added, but the feeling walking through is “wow”, wow, wow wow. We’d had an appointment to see this one, then it was “sold”, but we got an email from the agent whilst we were chateau hunting that the sale fell through, so we squeezed it in the morning we were to fly back to Paris. The curb appeal here is solid “A” material, & the interior doesn’t disappoint. So many pretty fireplaces, 2 parlors, very tall ceilings & good, original floors. Build in 1895, it was the home to a Fauvist painter Jean Puy, who worked alongside Matisse in his day. So along with good bones, a bit of intrigue to boot. Add to it solar panels to power the heating, a good roof, 4 apartments on the grounds currently all rented & a lot of checks start to form. This one is in town, near the Loire river & 1 hour by car from Lyon, the food capital of France. Check, check, check….
