It Started with “Free”…
This project started with an email from my dear friend Rachel…she’s absolute royalty when it comes to finding the most beautiful things for free, or if not free, ridiculously cheap. I can’t reveal her sources, so I’ve been told! She texted me one Friday evening with pictures of very French looking twin beds with frames & a gorgeous dresser with a mirror. For FREE! A local mom was remodeling some rooms, & wanted it out of her place. Within minutes, I’d said yes (much to Marlon’s chagrin). As he keeps saying, we do have to ultimately MOVE all these things.
There are some holes in the caning, but I THINK I can fix them. A while back I’d saved an image on my phone of a painted dining room hutch, & it seems the perfect color scheme for this project. The paint has been purchased & I have my blue painters tape at the ready - I’m excited to start on repairing & repainting these gems. I did a few of the drawers the other day & I’m kinda loving them! UPDATE: I’ve added the most gorgeous contact paper to the drawers. Here’s a link to they etsy site: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1040525182/watercolor-floral-contact-paper-peel-and?ref=yr_purchases
We also got a bit of the story…these pieces were made in the 1800’s in Indiana. The mom who was offering them up said she’d driven to Indiana to pick them up a few years ago. Now, hopefully soon, they’ll find a new home in a French bedroom.
UPDATE: I’ve gotten through the painting & have just a bit of caning repair left. It has been a big project & with the weather it’s taken some persistance to get it done! Needless to say, I LOVE how they turned out. Can’t wait to actually place them in a chateau bedroom & add the finishing touches to make a plain bedroom into a special place.
