Le Jardin Commence (The Garden Begins)
I’m a gardener. I had an amazing garden in the last home I owned & it was painful to leave it, what with the zen garden, water feature, bridge, fire pit, conversation space & separate vegetable patch. My last living space was an apartment & let me tell you, I FILLED the tiny outdoor deck with flowers & plants. My spirit is filled when I am pruning, weeding, & generally foofing with all things garden. I share all of this because I was, at first, overwhelmed with the garden at Chateau Depierre. The previous owner had done some bordered garden beds, but frankly things were left far too long & the garden was completely overgrown. Further, it was filled with discordant junk that made it neither structurally better nor pretty. When we first moved in late July 2022, there was the urgent need to clean the inside of the house before our furniture arrived. The outside would have to wait. We did venture out there a few times to strategize, but each time I spent an hour out there, I got discouraged. Enter in my dream team. We met a lovely crew of enterprising young people who said they’d be willing to help digging out from the overgrowth. Well, let’s say they did what was necessary & I’m so happy to have them on my team. Aurellie, Latiffa, Cyrielle & Maxime. Several weeks of clearing things out, moving rocks, giving away wood (we had about 6 separate wood piles), the dream team has gotten the garden in a state where we can do some serious hardscaping & laying out the vegetable garden in the spring. I’m so grateful for finding amazing people here to help us - a place like this takes a village to keep up. I’m sharing the pictures of the start…will keep you posted as we create the outline in the spring!
